Leading enterprise application software SAP SE (SAP - Analyst Report) and management consulting & technology services giant Accenture (ACN - Analyst Report) have been chosen by energy delivery company CenterPoint Energy, Inc (CNP - Analyst Report) for developing a unique asset analytics solution. Integrating information technology (IT) with operational technology (OT), the new solution will merge business data, sensor data and external data feeds, and will be compatible to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

Inside the Headlines

CenterPoint’s decision of using SAP HANA as foundation of its technology platform adds one more feather to the cap of SAP, whose state-of-art business software is increasingly finding favor with leading companies to simplify their operations (read more: SAP HANA Omnipresent in Business Mobility, Innovation). SAP HANA is being utilized in IT-OT Integration Solution to amalgamate enterprise and operational data, coupled with an asset health application, to create a robust platform.

Accenture will be responsible for providing asset analytics guidance, testing, managing and systems integration services, given its profound experience in the utilities domain. CenterPoint’s management opines that SAP and Accenture’s concerted efforts will ultimately drive dual benefits of boosting operational efficacy and trimming operating costs for the company. Both firms’ industry knowledge and expertise in transmission and distribution services rendered them a perfect fit for CenterPoint’s strategy of integrating IT and OT platforms.

Developing an integration solution system to leverage the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) revolution marks a prudent decision on part of CenterPoint. The IoT has created complex and large data for organizations, ranging from enterprise and operational activities to customer-oriented and asset-specific data, which calls for advanced statistical tools to spot hidden trends. The company expects to bring about some major improvement in its transmission and distribution network with the help of SAP and Accenture.

Our Take on SAP’s IoT Drive

We believe that SAP’s contribution toward the development of IoT has been significant. Over the past month, the company has been ruling the headlines with its effort to become a true guardian for organizations willing to adopt IoT for capitalizing on the gains of complex data churning.

Recently, the company also joined forces with software firm, Jasper, to simplify the deployment and management of IoT to optimize business value for both customers and partners (read more: SAP to Drive IoT Innovation with Multiple Collaborations).

Of late, SAP has taken some major steps in strengthening digital technology and enabling firms to use the SAP HANA platform for improving business operations. Currently, Accenture and SAP’s collaboration for developing IT-OT integration solutions is not only limited to energy delivery companies, but also extends to asset-oriented industries. Moreover, SAP is developing innovative solutions for the industrial equipment and automotive industry, thereby, cementing its position in the technology sector.

Zacks Rank
