@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), PSU, and SAP global company, signed a partnership agreement to launch the second batch of the (Mobily SAP) training program for employment, which is one of the approved programs of King Salman bin Abdulaziz for Education for Employment.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Melfi Al-Marzoqi, acting senior executive officer HR Center of Excellence; Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Yamani, PSU director; and Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP Global Company.

This program is a result of Mobily’s efforts to contribute to the development of the Saudi universities graduates and to help them get job opportunities.

Mobily provides the financial and technical support for the program, while SAP will provide a number of advantages for the distinguished university graduates, which is reflected in one year period participation in SAP Learning Hub Customer Edition, which is a cloud software platform allowing access to full package of training from SAP, including training topics and courses on the Internet.

Mobily and SAP already celebrated in September last the graduation of the first batch of graduates of the program consisting of 37 graduates from PSU, after having completed successfully the intensive training program of the academy over a period of 30 weeks.

King Salman program of education for employment is one of the distinctive programs of the PSU Center of Community Services & Continuing Education Center, which has the support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

PSU is the official umbrella for this program under the direct supervision of Prince Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Ayyaf, VP, Riyadh Philanthropic Society for Sciences. The program specializes in the rehabilitation of the graduates from Saudi universities of boys and girls who are suffering difficulties in getting a job as a result of lack of skills.

It's official: The San Jose Sharks will be moving their minor league franchise from Massachusetts to SAP Center in San Jose.

The move of the yet-to-be named American Hockey League development team, currently based in Worcester, is part of a larger plan that creates a new minor league division of five teams that are based in Western North America. The new Pacific Division will include the Sharks club, a Bakersfield team affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers, an Ontario, California club affiliated with the Los Angeles Kings, a San Diego team affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks and a Stockton team affiliated with the Calgary Flames.

The Sharks club move, reported earlier this month by the San Jose Mercury News, will take effect in October.

While any additional entertainment activity in downtown San Jose benefits local businesses, the Sharks' move comes bundled with questions. It remains to be seen how long the minor league team stays, whether their games can draw fans without cannibalizing the main team's fan base and whether ticket sales can generate enough revenue to cover costs.

Other early reports raised issues regarding team branding, room at facilities likely to be shared by both teams, and scheduling problems arising from playing 38 AHL home games at SAP Center in addition to NHL games.

Still, John Tortora, chief operating officer for the San Jose Sharks, is confident the presence of the AHL club will be a boon to his team.

"Having our AHL club playing in close proximity to our NHL club has innumerable benefits for the development for our young players and prospects," Tortora said in a statement. "It also provides an opportunity for the Sharks organization to grow Sharks Territory and enhance our footprint into what is an already hockey-crazy market."

People who want to get on a waiting list for season tickets for the AHL team can pay a deposit of $50. Current Sharks season ticket holders will get first priority.

NEC aims at Big Data 'sweet spot' with SAP Hana tool - Computerworld

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Cloud computing and SAP's Hana in-memory database can be a powerful combination for data analysis, and new tools could help to make sure it doesn't fall down on the job.

On Friday, NEC released a tool designed to make life easier for data analysts by boosting Hana availability in the cloud.

Focusing in particular on users of the Amazon Web Services cloud, the new tool takes advantage of NEC's ExpressCluster software. The tool can automatically detect system faults as SAP Hana runs on AWS and switch over to a standby server when problems arise. The result, NEC said, is to shorten downtime and improve both availability and operational efficiency.

The tool is aimed both at companies using SAP Hana for high-speed Big Data analyses and those using it for core business-critical systems, the company said.

Eventually, NEC plans to make the software available for other cloud-based services as well.

The new offering fills a distinct need at the intersection of the four key technologies involved, said Kirk Borne, a data scientist and professor at George Mason University.

"SAP Hana delivers in-memory analytics; clusters deliver fast parallel computing speed-ups for analytics tasks; cloud computing delivers scalable on-demand cluster computing; and AWS delivers managed cloud services in an accessible way," Borne said via email. "The NEC tool marries these solutions by providing an AWS-based workflow and cluster-management layer on top of the powerful in-memory analytics from SAP Hana."

The tool could help to democratize analytics, he said, by bringing it to an even broader community of data analysts without requiring a steep learning curve.

Numerous Big Data predictions for 2015 included both cloud-based analytics and in-memory analytics, so "it appears that NEC hit a sweet spot for data scientists," Borne said.

NEC is one of several vendors certified by SAP to work with Hana, so the new solution is probably an effort by NEC to differentiate itself, said analyst Henry Morris, a senior vice president with IDC.

However, it doesn't appear to offer any kind of uptime guarantee, he added.

"That's what the buyer would want to hear -- if they stand behind this offering," Morris said.
