Provide Human Resources counsel, services, and support to ensure a highly productive, motivated, and trained work force. Recommend appropriate human resource management actions to meet business needs while supporting the company's commitment to employees and ensuring legal compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities
1) Employee Relations
Support managers and employees' general HR needs.
Monitor employee relations climate and assist management in proactive employee relations.
Conduct research into Human Resource programs/policies and activities and recommend changes or innovations where appropriate.
Assist with organizational conflict, counseling, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
2) Labor Relations
Represent the Company in day-to-day labor/management relations.
Participate in grievance procedure.
In consultation with Corporate Labor Relations, provide counsel to the Supervisors and Operations Manager in dealings with union representatives on matters of contract interpretation and administration.
Deal with other contract disputes to include gathering documentation in preparation of grievance meetings and to resolve labor charges.
3) Compensation and Benefits
Provide salary and benefit administration for union and non-union employees.
Participate in compilation of data necessary to evaluate new or existing positions.
Administer compensation in accordance with company pay policies; provide payroll backup as needed.
Ensure appropriate communications coincide with salary actions.
Work with third party vendor to coordinate leaves of absence under STD, LTD, FMLA, etc.
Administer site SAP updates (pay increases, union dues, etc.), coordinating with corporate where applicable.
4) Performance Management
Support supervisors/managers in the effective use of the performance management system.
Ensure that managers/supervisors use performance management forms and procedures in a timely way.
Advise managers on appropriate objective setting process.
Provide direction and coaching to managers/supervisors on handling employee performance issues.
5) Employment
Administer the recruitment process consistent with Toro's philosophy and established practices.
Facilitate placement, transfer, and promotion activity.
Conduct exit interviews and provide other support as needed.
6) Corporate Culture/Employee Development
Assist managers in the assessment of training needs
Coordinate employee activities (Owners Day, appreciation lunches, etc.) to further develop employee/company relationships.
Participate on and/or lead various employee committees (P.I.E., Employee Club, Circle of Excellence, etc.) designed to further corporate culture.
7) Health & Safety
Responsible for adherence to plant safety programs to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Administer and monitor worker's compensation programs and related costs.
Monitor and act as the liaison between the company and the worker’s compensation third party administrator.
Act as liaison with Corporate Risk, Safety and Health and Environmental management.
Job Dimensions
Operates with appreciable latitude. Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with the Director, Human Resource and Labor Relations, on unusual matters. Assignments are broad in nature. Works closely with employees, Supervisors, and Operations Manager.
Specifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Communications, or related field
Five (5) plus years progressive Human Resources generalist experience
Labor relations experience preferred
Proficient in standard payroll and timekeeping practices; experience with Kronos preferred
Proficient in MS Office
Experience in SAP highly preferred
Experience with basic benefits administration
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks/deadlines
Employee relations focus: seek to maintain or enhance employee relations
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Capacity to work independently within a team-oriented, collaborative environment
