Best companies to work for 2014: SAP Labs' mantra is to put employees first - Economic Times

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

BANGALORE: Ask Vidur Shailendra Bhatnagar, a product associate at SAP Labs, to pick a single moment when he was glad to be an employee of the tech major. The youngster struggles.

"It would be hard to pick one," says the youngster. "It would begin with me winning the 'Employee of the Year'; to filing a patent for one of the algorithms I was working on; to getting selected for an international fellowship; to being chosen to be a part of the Managing Director's team to work on key strategic initiatives," he adds.

Bhatnagar started at SAP Labs as an intern, and within ten months, he grew to become a product associate from a developer associate. Much higher up the ladder, for T Shivaram, HRBP Leader, SAP Labs India, the connect to the company is based on an emotional incident.

Best companies to work for 2014: SAP Labs' mantra is to put employees first

"How the team members and the organisation rallied around the family after an employee's untimely death was touching. We also created an employment opportunity for the spouse of the employee," says Shivaram. To deal with employee's unforeseen emergencies, SAP Labs now has Care For Life Fund, an employee benevolent fund, which is a purely voluntary, employee funded and employee managed initiative. More than 98% of SAP's employees are a part of this entirely self-sustaining fund.

And for managing director Anirban Dey, his defining moment at SAP Labs, India was when in six months, 30 engineers worked 18 hours a day to pull of the launch of SAP HANA, a popular global SAP product, in December 2010. It is this mix of opportunity for growth, an emotional connect, and quality of work that attracts bright minds to this firm. "We practice a bottoms-up approach to policy making, meaning that employees participate to implement and drive policies, instead of management pushing down policies."

According to employees, this is a place where the employee is put first. "If you take care of the people, the processes and policies will automatically be taken care of," says Shivaram. And global recognition helps too. From India, Kasturi Rajaram was chosen to be an ambassador of SAP as a SAP Labs India mascot.

Leadership for the company is fostered from within, giving employees a better shot at growth. There are regular leadership talks by stalwarts, counting Dr. Devi Shetty, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and N R Narayana Murthy, in recent times. The company has also done well to manage diversity.

Credited with one of the better ratios for women employees in the country, SAP Labs reduced attrition amongst women who take maternity leave dramatically from 31% in 2010 to just 5% by 2012 and zero in 2013, which has been part of the senior management's goal here. And add to its people-friendly policies the 23-acre SAP Labs India campus at the heart of the IT hub in Bangalore, 80% of the campus accounts for green space. No wonder then that Dey says, "The place feels like a 42 year old start-up."

'Malicious SAP emails traced to ex-India MD's laptop' - Times of India

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

SAP Labs' police complaint on May 30 had alleged that malicious and offensive emails were sent to its German board members over a four-month period.

BANGALORE: Anirban Dey's exit as SAP Labs India managing director last week appears to have happened under strange circumstances.

"The IP address from where the objectionable emails were sent is from SAP Labs former head Anirban Dey. We have not questioned anyone in connection with the case. We are waiting for legal opinion to proceed further," DCP (Bangalore-East) P S Harsha told TOI.

TOI was the first to report both Dey's exit and SAP's registration of a case against the anonymous emailer.

SAP Labs' police complaint on May 30 had alleged that malicious and offensive emails were sent to its German board members over a four-month period from December 23, 2013 to April 13 this year. The complaint, filed under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act 2000, alleged the mails were hurting the reputation of senior executives in the company. On Monday, the company said, it had conducted a full investigation after certain allegations were made, via anonymous emails, against an SAP India employee.

"SAP takes all allegations seriously and we fully investigate all reports, anonymous or otherwise. So far, our internal investigations indicate that the anonymous allegation was incorrect and contained unsubstantiated details. In accordance with SAP policy, we have referred this matter to the local police and, with an investigation underway, we cannot discuss details of that case."

When contacted, Dey told TOI "I have no comments at this point in time. Please contact SAP Marcom team for further updates. We will connect at a suitable time later." Sources said the complaints related to an alleged unsavoury incident that happened in the company about two years ago and which the anonymous emailer felt had not been adequately dealt with. Following Dey's exit, SAP looks to be considering withdrawing the police complaint. Police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told TOI that the management of SAP Labs was not keen on pursing the case. He said the management had sought time to reconsider their decision and in all possibility the case would

'Malicious SAP emails traced to ex-India MD's laptop' - Times of India
