SAP Specialist Reports on Salaries and Employment Climate for IT Workers

Red Commerce, a specialist in SAP consulting and staffing, has announced the results of its SAP salary survey in the USA. Believed to be the largest survey of its kind, with 1,194 respondents, this provides insight into the salaries, work environment and expectations of IT professionals specializing in SAP across the USA.

The survey showed that nearly two-thirds (65.9%) of respondents in full-time jobs have seen a salary increase in the last year, while the remainder saw no change and no respondents reported a decrease. Of freelancers, 44.5% saw an hourly rate increase and 43.9% stayed the same, with 11.6% seeing their rate fall.

SAP professionals expect these trends to continue in 2013, with all of the full-time respondents and 56.1% of freelancers projecting an increase in their salary or hourly rate within the coming year.

"These salary expectations may well be linked to more buoyant employment prospects and increasing mobility amongst SAP professionals," said Richard Vercesi, CEO at Red Commerce.

"75.5% of respondents in full-time employment said in our survey that they would be looking for a new job in the next 12 months," said Vercesi. "This is substantially higher than we have seen over the last few years, but times are good and employees are looking around for new opportunities."

More key findings of the survey include:

  • While 82.4% of respondents were male, average salary levels were the same for men and women ($110,000 - $119,000).

  • 54% are US citizens, 15% green card, and 31% visa holders.

  • 48.4% work for SAP partner organizations, 42.4% work for SAP customers, and 9% work for a SAP company.

  • Unpaid overtime is becoming increasingly common, with 48% of freelancers working up to 5 hours a month unpaid.

  • 47.5% of freelancers travel to another state for their current assignment.

  • The highest number of respondents was in Texas (14.4%), with other significant concentrations in California (12.5%), New Jersey (8.4%), New York (6.5%) and Illinois (7.9%).

  • The top five industries for SAP professionals to work in were high tech & IT, professional services (consulting), general manufacturing, consumer products, and oil & gas.
