SAP announced the release of its Social Contact Intelligence application, powered by the SAP HANA platform, at the CRM Evolution 2013 conference in New York.


The application is designed to enable marketers and sales staff to collect and aggregate the unstructured social media information that's scattered throughout the Internet, beyond the confines of an internal IT system.


Social Contact Intelligence is one of four applications that make up the SAP Customer Engagement Intelligence stack. Before Social Contact Intelligence, the Customer Engagement Intelligence Solution had analytics that could target customer segments, determine customer value, and mobilize sales teams. The new Social Contact Intelligence application adds the ability to get sentiment and insights from social sources.


This isn't a standalone application; the entire Customer Engagement Intelligence solution is powered by SAP HANA, an in-memory database that all of the applications hook into in order to function. For instance, HANA provides text analysis, predictive analytics, and natural language processing (NLP) capabilities.
