SAP AG Co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Hagemann Snabe will step down next year and join the supervisory board, the German software company said today.

The change is subject to approval by at least 25 percent of SAP’s shareholders at a meeting in May 2014, according to a statement. Bill McDermott, who has been jointly leading the world’s largest business-management software maker since 2010, will become sole CEO, said Hasso Plattner, co-Founder of SAP and chairman of SAP’s supervisory board.

“After more than 20 years with SAP, I have decided that it is time for me to begin the next phase of my career, closer to my family,’ Snabe said. ’What the entire SAP team has achieved since 2010 is remarkable, and the momentum we have built is now driving the transformation of the industry.”

The company will discuss the re-distribution of Snabe's responsibilities over the coming 10 months, spokesman Daniel Reinhardt said by phone. The decision was made at a supervisory board meeting at Snabe's request today, he added.
