Oracle, SAP To Benefit From Analytics Software Growth - Investor's Business Daily

Business analytics software revenue will rise at a compound annual rate of 9.7% over the next four years, up from 8.7% growth last year, says market tracker IDC in a new report.

That's good news for leading analytics software makers Oracle (ORCL) and SAP (SAP), which stumbled with their most recent earnings reports.

IDC pegs the sector's revenue last year at $34.9 billion. IDC includes data warehousing platform software, business intelligence software and performance management software in the analytics sector. Besides Oracle and SAP, the two largest makers of business application software, vendors in the sector include IBM (IBM), Microsoft (MSFT), privately held SAS and Teradata (TDC).

The growing need for faster decision making in the Big Data era is boosting the prospects for data analytics software, as companies seek a competitive advantage, IDC analyst Dan Vesset said in the research firm's report.

"There is growing quantifiable evidence that data-driven decision making enabled by business analytics solutions provides a competitive difference," he said. "This, along with broad interest in Big Data, has pushed the technology to the top of many executive agendas and ushered it into the mainstream market."

SAP was up 3% in afternoon trading Wednesday, while Oracle was flat in the stock market today.
