Retention Science Gets Hand-Picked to Join SAP HANA Startup Focus Program - PR Web (press release)

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) May 31, 2013

Retention Science, a big data company that helps E-commerce business maximize customer lifetime value and retention, was hand-picked to participate in the SAP Startup Focus program. Known for being highly selective, the program only admits startups that show real promise in the field of big data, predictive, and real-time analytics.

“We were looking for innovative startups that solve real problems for enterprises. We saw that Retention Science’s predictive analytics solutions can have a big impact on many of our clients and the business sector in general. That’s one of the reasons why SAP chose the company,” said Ron Wessels, Head of the Startup Focus Program.

Retention Science joins a select group of companies in various activities designed to accelerate their traction and development. Among those activities includes virtual and in-person boot camps that give developers the chance to access HANA technology and deepen their relationship with SAP.

“We’re very excited about this exciting opportunity and we’re excited to take part in the program’s events” said Retention Science co-founder Jerry Jao. He furthered that being part of SAP Startup Focus will allow Retention Science to find more effective ways to leverage SAP technology in its retention automation platform and Customer Profiling Engine to predict customer behaviors.

“Retention Science is constantly innovating. We’re always looking for ways to improve our big data and predictive analytics technology and being a part of SAP Startup Focus lets us explore ways to do that.”

BIG DATA APPLICATION FOR CUSTOMER RETENTION

Big data and predictive analytics, which are the cornerstones of Retention Science’s technology, are playing a much bigger role in E-commerce than ever before. Online merchants rely on analytics to evaluate and improve various aspects of their business.

More importantly, data and analytics give E-tailers invaluable knowledge about their users and allow them to take the necessary steps to improve customer experience. Retention Science’s specialty lies in using the two to boost customer retention in E-Commerce businesses. The company aggregates massive amounts of customer data for its clients and analyzes them to recommend retention campaigns relevant to each user.

The company has received a lot of praise—both from its clients and the media—for its innovative use of big data and analytics. And with help of the SAP Startup Focus Program, Retention Science will be able to take its technology even further.

About Retention Science

Retention Science is the first Retention Automation Platform that turns Big Data analytics and predictive algorithms into actionable retention marketing campaigns. Its Customer Profiling Engine analyzes the customer lifecycle and optimizes the time periods to re-engage customers with individually-tailored offers. Retention Science has been named a Top 10 Software Company in Southern California by SocalTech. Its award winning technology was featured at Under the Radar and won the Judge’s Choice & Audience awards judged by marketing executives from Zappos, Etsy, One Kings Lane, etc.

SAP Announces A Single Unified Development Organisation - Biztech2.com

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

SAP AG has announced that it will simplify its organisational structure and create a single development organisation to oversee innovation across the company. The new structure will enable SAP to accelerate innovations powered by the SAP HANA platform for existing and new products, drive a cloud-first approach for the development of line-of-business applications, increase SAP’s leadership in mobile and further accelerate the company’s go-to-market for cloud and the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service.

“We have transformed SAP into a growth company built on innovation. SAP HANA has become the future innovation platform for our customers and is now radically changing the industry while cloud disruption is redefining the market and business models. By creating one single development organisation under Vishal’s leadership, we will dramatically accelerate the speed of these innovations,” said Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, co-CEOs of SAP AG. “By leveraging development synergies across our cloud and on premise areas, we can further accelerate cloud solutions for our customers.”

SAP will consolidate all innovation under Vishal Sikka, member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, Technology and Innovation. Effective June 1, all SAP development and custom development leaders will report directly to Sikka. Additionally, the Executive Board has nominated Bernd Leukert, Executive Vice President for Application Innovation, to the Global Managing Board of SAP AG. Leukert will report to Sikka and will strengthen SAP’s global development organisation.

“We face an unprecedented opportunity to rethink the world through technology with the combination of cloud-based ease of delivery, the power of SAP HANA to enable a new real-time across the trading world and the power of design to unleash our imaginations to build amazing products that open new horizons. We will do all of this non-disruptively and without compromise, just as our customers have counted on over the last 41 years,” said Sikka. “We are inspired by Hasso Plattner’s challenge to explore new frontiers and to intellectually renew SAP, and I believe this is only the beginning.”

SAP Executive Board Member Gerhard Oswald will take responsibility for a new Scale, Quality and Support board area. To meet the growing customer demand for SAP HANA, Oswald will be responsible for the operations of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. This new organisation will leverage the expertise of SAP Global IT infrastructure services to accelerate the build out of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. Furthermore, quality, governance and production will drive quality across all development teams. Oswald will continue to be responsible for the SAP Active Global Support organisation, the SAP Labs network (jointly with Sikka) and Solution and Knowledge Packaging.

Along with SAP HANA, SAP has seen tremendous momentum in its cloud business. Since the acquisition of SuccessFactors, an SAP company, Lars Dalgaard has brought his unsurpassed passion, leadership and execution excellence in the cloud business to SAP. Dalgaard will step down from the Executive Board and leave the company effective June 1 to become an investor. He will continue to play an active role as an advisor to the SAP Cloud business and will stay closely involved in the future development of SAP’s cloud strategy. In addition, SAP Co-CEOs McDermott and Snabe will become Executive Board sponsors for SAP’s cloud business.

To further accelerate the success in SAP’s cloud business, the company will consolidate its cloud go-to-market under the leadership of Bob Calderoni, CEO of Ariba, an SAP company, President of Global Cloud Operations and member of the Global Managing Board of SAP AG, who will also continue to lead the Ariba business network activities. Calderoni will work closely with Rob Enslin, President of Global Customer Operations and Member of the Global Managing Board of SAP AG, to maximise coverage for cloud solutions. Enslin will continue to lead SAP’s worldwide sales and customer operations.

In addition, Luisa Delgado, member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, Human Resources, and Labor Relations Director, has decided to leave SAP to pursue a broader business leadership responsibility as CEO of another company. She will remain on board until June 30 to ensure an effective handover.

“We would like to thank Lars and Luisa for their strong leadership and wish them success in their personal and professional lives. They have an outstanding leadership record and nurtured excellent leaders who will enable a smooth transition for our cloud business and people strategy,” said McDermott and Snabe.

SAP Executive Board Member Werner Brandt will take on the Executive Board responsibility for Human Resources and become the Labor Relations Director in Germany in addition to his role as chief financial officer of SAP AG. In addition, Luka Mucic will become head of Finance to support Brandt in his expanded responsibilities. The Executive Board has nominated Mucic to the Global Managing Board.

Rimini Street hires industry veteran to lead SAP/Oracle maintenance charge - ComputerworldUK

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Third party SAP and Oracle software maintenance provider Rimini Street has hired an industry veteran as European managing director to aid its expansion in the region.

Jill Harrison, who has worked for SAP, Siebel Systems and Infosys in a 28-year business software career, is now Rimini Street's managing director for the EMEA region.

For SAP, Harrison was responsible for establishing and growing the Business One product line in the UK, and "was recognised for outstanding sales achievements", said Rimini Street. During her tenure at Siebel Systems - later acquired by Oracle - Harrison was responsible for growing and managing the EMEA business. And at Infosys, Harrison led the European Oracle practice.

"I recognise the significant and growing demand for Rimini Street third-party support across the EMEA region from Oracle and SAP customers, who wish to maximise the return on current system investments without having to complete expensive upgrades just to stay supported," said Harrison.

Rimini Street said it had recently "significantly grown" its team of support engineers in EMEA and that it will also be adding more EMEA-based sales personnel to "meet accelerating regional demand".

Rimini Street says 65 organisations with EMEA operations currently use its support services, including Fortune 500 and Global 100 organisations.

Earlier this month Silicon Valley's Bridge Bank ploughed £10 million of funding into Rimini Street.

Rimini Street claims it can enable Oracle and SAP licensees to "save up to 90 percent on total support costs over a decade", including "saving 50 percent on annual support fees".

At its recent Sapphire user conference SAP countered that third party maintenance firms targeting its software were avoided by most of its customers. It said they wanted full support for its most up to date products - which it claimed the likes of Rimini Street couldn't keep up with.

Workday takes on SAP and Oracle with with payroll plans for UK, France - ZDNet

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Summary: With its sights set firmly on European expansion, cloud ERP firm Workday has flagged up its strategic intentions with two new payroll initiatives.

Enterprise cloud apps company Workday has set out its plans for UK and French payroll systems as part of a drive to secure more European subscriptions.

Europe constitutes Workday's fastest-growing market, growing from virtually nothing about two years ago to provide more than 10 percent of the company's business today, according to chairman, co-founder and co-CEO Aneel Bhusri.

"Workday is really serious about Europe and at the highest level we're in a little bit of a race with SAP and Oracle. We believe we have a four- or five-year head-start with the products, as the world moves from on-premise to the cloud," Bhusri said.

"They've obviously got bigger sales and services organisations in Europe — that's really the race. I'm pretty optimistic at this point but these are two formidable competitors," he said.

"Since the day we started the company, we set out to replace PeopleSoft, SAP and Oracle and if you look at our customer base, in almost all cases, they are replacements for one of those three systems."

Bhusri said the company's success in North America results largely from a focus on multinationals. Workday's strategy in the UK, France, the Netherlands and Scandinavian countries is built on the same approach.

"We do very well with multinationals that are managing people across multiple geographies. The system is built to provide a single global view of all your employees, of all your talents and all your costs but also it supports all the local legislation as well," he said.

According to Bhusri, Workday has already chalked up some notable successes in Europe, securing contracts with UK-based multinationals such as insurer Aviva, retail group Primark, foreign-exchange company Travelex, and business services firm Rentokil Initial — as well as electronics giant Philips in the Netherlands. Workday has about 450 major customers worldwide.

He said the decision to work on payroll systems, which should be available by 2015 in the UK and 2016 in France, is based on their strategic importance.

"That just opens up more of the market for us. Some of the large companies would like to run not just human resources but payroll in a unified way and without the payroll offerings they would probably wait a little longer to become a customer," Bhusri said.

He added that the UK and French payroll systems represented major commitments and that he expected Workday to do better than the 2015 and 2016 dates for UK and French payroll.

"Those are conservative dates but what we're putting out there now is a way for customers and potential customers to plan around those availability dates," he said.

SAP To Collaborate with China Govt to Urban Fight Traffic Congestion - Wall Street Journal (India)

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

By Archibald Preuschat

German software maker SAP AG (SAP) said Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government to fight traffic congestion in the country's fast-growing cities.

As part of the project, now in a pilot phase and expected to come into full swing in the fall, SAP and the Chinese High-Way Group plan a broad collaboration to research integrated solutions for transportation communications and develop intelligent traffic management systems.

Chinese cities are growing rapidly with more than 400 million people expected to be added to the urban population by 2025, making traffic management and planning public transport systems a challenge. The existing IT environment lacks the ability for predictive and advanced data analysis to proactively manage different traffic and transportation scenarios to provide better services to China's citizens and help better urban planning, SAP said.

The core of SAP's contribution will be Hana, the company's super-fast database, which allow analysis of large amounts of data in real time. In China a large amount of transportation data are generated through metro, buses, taxis and traffic cameras, among other sources.

According to the German company, China's total investment into smart transportation systems has grown continuously to more than 500 million euros ($642.5 million) annually. The company didn't disclose financial information on the collaboration with the Chinese government.

China is a market that SAP is focusing on for growth. The company invested $2 billion in the 2011-2015 period to provide tailored products in the country.

SAP's HANA arms transport businesses against fraud - V3.co.uk

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Coca-cola tests biomethane Iveco lorry

SAP's HANA data analytics services are helping to save transportation firms large sums of money that would previously have been lost to scams, according to fleet management firm ARI.

ARI UK managing director Keith Allen told V3 that since adopting SAP's HANA technology, the firm has been able to offer customers advanced behaviour tracking services. This lets them spot harmful trends that may otherwise have gone unnoticed for several months.

"We've had examples where, dare I say it, we can identify fraud, showing things like when a driver said he is filling his car up at a gas station but the car's at a different location. With the tools we have, the fleet operator has that information available and can just ping an email to the driver, asking them to explain why they're using a company fuel card," he said.

"That's an example where HANA can be utilised, where we're getting information specific to the fleet operator and manager so they can action it immediately. It's not like days gone by where they'd see a trend and then take six months doing all these calculations about fuel spent and miles driven offline before spotting something wrong, now it's immediately actionable."

Allen said the analytics also help the company to improve overall driver efficiency, letting them spot atypical trends indicating bad or dangerous behaviour.

"Risk management is a key area. Something a lot of our competitors can't do is integrate the amount of data we do. Using the data, we can get a lot of information about how the car is being driven from things like miles per gallon. The information can then be benchmarked with a league table to improve fleet driving behaviour," he said.

ARI director of information management Bill Powell said that the technology is so impressive, it managed to attract the firm away from competing providers, like Oracle. "We're not your typical SAP customer. In terms of our technology stack, we have a mixed environment, we primarily run Oracle transactional systems. And quite frankly, because we're an Oracle transactional shop, we lean very heavily towards Oracle solutions," he said.

"But after we took a look at the [HANA] solution, we realised its not just about the database, its about how the business gets to that information, how they're going to work with that information. You have to look at the entire technology stack all the way through. After we did that, we spoke with SAP and tested how it worked with our technology and how competitors worked with our technology, and we found HANA was the right fit for our purposes."

Powell said that despite HANA's positive qualities, there are roadblocks that make wholesale adoption of SAP's ecosystem architecture unrealistic for many businesses.

"In our line of business (fleet management), the software itself is not a commodity you can go and buy off the shelf; you have to code it yourself. So there's a huge investment in the in-house technology stack. We weren't looking to rewrite all that software and we couldn't just go out and buy some. SAP has a fantastic product offering, but its not specific to our industry or what we do. What we wanted to do is get better at processing information, not rewriting our core applications," he said.

The ARI director also highlighted how the cutting edge nature of HANA, combined with its rapid deployment speed, was a potential pitfall for firms. "We've had our challenges. With any cutting edge technology you're going to have your challenges. For us it's mostly been from an employee perspective, trying to understand what the technology is," he said.

"We were a little too aggressive rolling the SAP Explore platform out. As a tool we had an excellent response from our customers and we immediately started rolling it out without properly training our in-house support people first. That obviously was a mistake as some of our customers suddenly knew more about their data than we did, which is not a good place to be. They were performing analysis that our own internal staff weren't able to do. We had phone calls coming in asking staff questions they weren't trained to answer. We had to take a step back."

ARI is one of many firms to praise HANA for its advanced analytics capabilities. Most recently McLaren said HANA has already become a key tool driving the team to race success. SAP has hinted that many government departments and military agencies have already expressed interest in HANA's behaviour-monitoring features.

SAP to Cooperate With China on Intelligent Transportation Systems Powered by ... - PR Newswire (press release)

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

BERLIN, May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) plans to enter into a strategic cooperation with the Chinese government on the development of intelligent transportation systems to help manage traffic in China's fast-growing urban areas over the coming decades. SAP and the Chinese High-Way Group plan to enter into broad collaboration for research on integrated solutions for transportation communications and the development of intelligent traffic management systems leveraging advanced software solutions from SAP for big data powered by the SAP HANA® platform, cloud computing and mobile computing. Gerd Oswald , member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, agreed to further evaluate a respective collaboration in Berlin with China's Premier Li Keqiang during his visit to Germany.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110126/AQ34470LOGO)

"Urbanization is one of the biggest challenges for China with more than 400 million people expected to be added to China's urban population by 2025," said Oswald. "The intelligent management of public transportation is critical for sustainable economic growth and the long-term socioeconomic development in China. We are very delighted about our strategic collaboration plans with the Chinese government on a broad scale to develop intelligent transportation systems to help make the world run better and improve people's lives. The collaboration should help China manage its next phase of sustained growth with the help of advanced technology from SAP for big data analysis and predictive analytics, mobile computing and cloud-based solutions."

China's total investment into intelligent transportation systems has grown continuously to more than EUR 500 million annually. The amount of transportation data generated through metro, buses, taxis and traffic cameras, among others, is tremendous. The existing IT environment lacks the ability for predictive and advanced data analysis to proactively manage different traffic and transportation scenarios to provide better services to China's citizens and help better urban planning. SAP has a long-standing experience in managing the analysis of large volume and is leading in the industry with SAP HANA in real-time analytics as well as the transactional processes in nearly all adjacent fields. SAP plans to closely collaborate with the China Ministry of Transport (MoT) and may bring together the comprehensive domain expertise for traffic, logistics and transportation of the MoT as well as cutting-edge research and technology for intelligent transportation.

SAP flexes innovation muscle and reiterates MENA investment focus - AME Info (press release)

@ a< href="http://sap.rssfeeds.pw">Sap RSS News

Qais Gharaibeh, UAE Managing Director, SAP MENA delivered a assured keynote at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, covering SAP business philosophy, technological innovation and the importance of MENA to the company's on-going growth plan.

"More than ever before, we have an extraordinary opportunity to use technology to make the world run better," he said.

"Consumers expect speed and agility, and they expect sophisticated information delivered to their fingertips as a radically simplified experience. In a better run world, connectivity, exponential data growth and a desire to communicate more effectively will inspire companies not only deliver business value but also generative value, expanding opportunities for themselves while also improving the lives of their customers and communities."

Gharaibeh said SAP is continually delivering on this front via a five-pronged approach, ramping up its investment and innovations in database and technology, mobile, analytics, applications, and the cloud. At the foundation of this multifaceted innovation strategy is SAP HANA, a revolutionary in-memory platform for real-time business.

Rapidly gaining in popularity across MENA, the technology, on which applica¬tions can be developed and deployed, has ena¬bled scores of customers across the globe to cope with the rise of big data and run in smarter, sim¬pler and faster ways.

"SAP is the only company that is continuously innovating across these five categories and driving breakthrough performance powered by SAP HANA," he added.

Gharaibeh went on to emphasise the centrality of MENA to SAP's global growth strategy of doubling its addressable market, reaching 1 billion people and generating global revenue of €20bn by 2015.

Since establishing a direct MENA presence in 2007, SAP MENA has expanded to nine offices across the region, amassed over 1,100 customers in 24 industries and increased its employee-base more than tenfold. Last year, the company recruited over 200 employees. Furthermore, SAP has more than 1400 qualified consultants under its Partner Edge Program and has trained more than 400 consultants from 81 partners in the last 6 months.

The company's growth momentum was boosted last March with a four-year additional MENA spend plan. Key targets include hiring more than 500 employees, tripling the company's existing con¬sulting capabilities, opening several new offices, as well as expanding its partner ecosystem and the influence of its vocation-inspiring Universi¬ty Alliances Program.

The plan also includes the region's first IT-spe¬cific Training and Development Center which is, among other things, accelerating and extending product localization and Arabization.

Within the first six months of operation, the Training and Development Center has significantly bolstered SAP's training capabilities and yielded influential localizations of SAP solutions such as Human Capital Management and Financial Services for the Public Sector.

Gharaibeh was also keen to highlight SAP's work in up-skilling and empowering local talent.

This includes the internationally acclaimed University Alliances program, which now counts 31 members across the region, encompassing 1,747 students and 201 trained lecturers. In the UAE alone, there are five alliances with 62 trained instructors and 309 active students.

Other key initiatives include the MENA Field Services- Young Professionals Program (YPP), which is now training 120 students in SAP solutions. In addition, SAP runs the Mawared program, a three month training resource program for young professionals and graduates aiming to become professional SAP consultants. 37 students graduated from the program this month.

Nick Brown, Senior Vice President, Mobile Strategy & Solution Management and Head of Emerging Markets, SAP, echoed the sentiments of Gharaibeh's keynote with a rallying cry for companies to adapt to new business realities.

"Mobile and social is the new dial tone. There are 1 billion networked users on social sites whose opinion matters. It can make or break business - 9 out of 10 people want something exciting and innovative or they won't buy into it," he said.

"This is a perfect storm of connectivity. Data is exploding and companies need to react in real-time to stay relevant and sustainable. SAP is ready to help businesses be deliberate and innovate with speed. SAP is ready to help you win in new ways."

Also on keynote duty was Majed Al Mutairi, President, SUG-MENA, a not-for-profit organisation set up to exchange SAP experiences, knowledge, best practices and industry expertise amongst peers.

"We provide a platform for members to influence SAP and drive future development of SAP products and services," he explained.

"We serve as an independent voice for SAP users in the MENA region and also provide a channel for SAP to communicate to users."

In addition to the keynotes the SAP Forum and the SUG-MENA Conference featured presentations, panel discussions, demonstrations and interactive breakout sessions on industry trends, market dynamics, cutting-edge SAP solutions and customer case studies from the likes of DUBAL, ETA Ascon Star Group, NDC, Schneider-Electric, Rasasi Perfumes Industy, Gulf Cement, OTE Group and Saudi Aramco.
